Among established Sikkim trekking itineraries, Green Lake includes comparatively challenging stretches that demand previous high-altitude trekking experience. These demanding sections enhance the expedition character of this Himalaya trekking journey. In return, trekkers are rewarded with expansive Himalayan landscapes dotted with turquoise glacial lakes, wild alpine pastures where wild sheep herds roam freely, and pristine blue skies dominated by the towering Kanchenjunga Massif rising to 8,586 meters. Few routes within trekking Kanchenjunga offer such direct proximity to the mountain’s northern face.

The hike begins from Lachen, a small nomadic settlement in North Sikkim at 2,700 meters with limited hotel facilities. After departing Lachen, trekkers spend the next 8–9 days in alpine tents surrounded by unspoiled mountain terrain, while the trekking crew manages logistical support.
