Eastern Extreme
From undefined/dayBiking in the East Sikkim frontiers (Only for Indian Nationals)
Destinations Covered || Kalimpong * Lava * Aritar * Zuluk * Nathang Valley * Gangtok
Introduction || In this one-week journey, you will traverse the unseen eastern frontiers of Sikkim bordering Bhutan and Tibet, riding across a lesser-known north sikkim biking route that reaches the higher ridges of Zuluk, Nathang Valley, Bedang Tso, and the Tsongo Basin between 3,000 and 4,000 metres. Recently introduced on the Sikkim tourism map, this trail remains largely unexplored, making it especially appealing for riders seeking authentic mountain biking sikkim experiences away from crowded routes.
With minimal traffic and vast open landscapes, the ride unfolds through dramatic mountain biking trails marked by high mountain peaks, alpine lakes, dense forests of Pangolakha, windswept passes, and open yak pastures. The combination of altitude, terrain, and solitude gives the journey a raw and rewarding rhythm that defines the spirit of Himalaya biking in eastern India.
The ride begins in Kalimpong, once an ancient trade centre between Tibet and India, before entering Sikkim via Aritar and following sections of the historic Silk Route toward Lhasa. This stretch blends cultural history with challenging terrain, aligning the journey with classic India biking tours that emphasise landscape-driven exploration. The route continues toward Gangtok via Tsongo Lake, with a possible visit to Nathula Pass on the Indo–China border, subject to permit availability, completing a distinctive and immersive mountain biking India experience.
Steep and challenging terrain is suitable only for experienced bikers, and at this moment, only Indian Nationals are permitted to go on this tour.
